A general review of Nest / Une critique générale de Nest

FR : Nest est un groupe finlandais désormais en standby (et je prie tous les jours pour un retour de ce groupe). On retrouve un duo au sein de ce groupe Aslak Tolonen (autrement dit mon idole) que nous connaissons désormais pour ses projets dans Syven et T. Saxell. Ce n’est pas UN groupe de neofolk, c’est LE groupe de neofolk. A mes yeux, il n’y a pas plus neofolk que ce groupe. Une neofolk particulièrement rare car réalisée avec l’instrument traditionnel finlandais, le kantele.

Fabled Lore est la démo du groupe gravée par les artistes eux-mêmes en 2000.

Hidden Stream est un split avec Isafjord sorti en 2001 chez Corvus Records. Album très très très très rare à trouver.

Woodsmoke en 2003. Deux versions : une regular et une limited à 99 exemplaires (et je cherche toujours cette limited edition).

Last Vestige of Old Joy en vinyl split avec Agalloch en 2004. Malheureusement je n’ai pas encore ce vinyl car il coûte assez cher.

Trail of the Unwary en 2007 là aussi avec deux versions : regular et limited 99 (et si quelqu’un se sépare de sa version limited, s’il vous plait, faites moi signe).

Le meilleur album du groupe est selon moi Hidden Stream, mais je ne suis pas particulièrement objectif pour le coup car c’est un des tous premiers albums de neofolk que j’ai écouté dans ma vie et j’ai écouté cet album des dizaines de fois. Album proche de la nature, très calme et apaisant.

Dans le même esprit on retrouve Woodsmoke là encore album proche de la nature et méditatif.

Trail of the unwary est plus sombre mais tout aussi magnifique, ce qui a amené à la création de Syven, comme expliqué dans l’interview de Syven.

Je n’ai pas d’autres mots à dire que l’ensemble de l’oeuvre de Nest est un pur chef d’oeuvre.

EN : Nest is a Finnish band from now on standby (and I pray every day for a return of this band). We find a duet within this group Aslak Tolonen (in other words my idol) which we know from now on for its projects in Syven and T. Saxell. It is not A group of neofolk , it is THE group of neofolk. For me, there is no more neofolk there than this band. A neofolk music particularly rare because realized with the Finn traditional instrument, the kantele.

The best album of the group is according to me Hidden Stream, but I am not particularly objective this time because it is one of the  first neofolk albums which I listened to in my life and I listened to this album dozens of times. Close album of nature, very quiet and soothing.

In the same spirit we find Woodsmoke even there close album of natural and meditative.

Trail of the unwary is darker but so magnificent, what brought to the creation of Syven, as explained in the interview of Syven.

I have no other words to say that the whole work of Nest is a pure masterpiece.
